Free Download Metacritic for Forspoken: A Mixed Bag of Action and Storytelling

In the latest action-RPG from Luminous Productions, Forspoken, players are transported to the magical world of Athia after stumbling through a portal. The game's protagonist, Frey, finds herself trapped in this new realm, where she must navigate treacherous landscapes and battle mutated monsters to uncover the source of a mysterious blight known as the Break.

While the game's narrative setup is intriguing, it's ultimately let down by boring or unlikable characters. Frey, however, stands out as an ideal candidate for exploring the Break and destroying it. Her bond with a sentient bracelet, which she nicknames Cuff, adds a personal touch to her journey.

One of Forspoken's greatest strengths is its parkour system, allowing players to stretch their legs and magically traverse the fantasy landscape. This mechanic is a highlight of the game, making exploration and traversal a joy. Unfortunately, combat falls flat, with clunky mechanics and too much repetition.

Regular exposition also stalls the action, bogging down the pace of the game. Instead of immersing players in an engaging story, Forspoken's narrative feels forgettable, failing to provide a compelling reason for why the player should care about the stakes.

As an isekai-stories inspired game (think Alice in Wonderland but Japanese), Forspoken tries to capture the magic of these fantastical worlds. However, it ultimately fails to understand what makes this genre so popular. Despite its flaws, Forspoken still has potential, and fans of action-RPGs may find some enjoyment in its magical world and parkour mechanics.
